One delivery, not three
Switchgear, transformer and LV distribution arrive as a single assembled unit rather than as separate deliveries to be married up on site.

11 – 33 kV
Compact, pre-engineered substations built and tested as a single unit at our works — HV switchgear, transformer and LV distribution in one enclosure, delivered ready to connect. Up to 5 MVA in the 33 kV class.
Overview
A package substation answers a site problem rather than an electrical one. Building a conventional substation means a civil structure, separate deliveries of switchgear and transformer, assembly by several trades in sequence, and commissioning tests that can only begin once all of it is standing. A package substation compresses that into one delivery that arrives already assembled and already tested.
What that buys is time and certainty. The interconnections between switchgear, transformer and LV panel are made and proven in a workshop rather than in a trench in monsoon season, and the unit is tested as an assembly before it leaves — so faults surface where they are cheap to fix.
It is the right answer where site space is tight, where the programme is short, or where there is no appetite for a civil works package. Where a site already has a building and a long programme, a conventional substation usually costs less.
Built to order. Send your required rating and voltage class and we will confirm against your specification.
Key features
Switchgear, transformer and LV distribution arrive as a single assembled unit rather than as separate deliveries to be married up on site.
The unit is tested complete at our works, so the interconnections are proven before it ships — not discovered at commissioning.
Most of the work that would happen on site has already happened in the shop, which takes weeks out of the critical path.
Pre-engineered is not off-the-shelf — the arrangement is configured to your single-line diagram and the space you have.
Designed for sites where a conventional substation building is not practical or the plot simply is not there.
Repair, oil filtration and onsite maintenance come from the team that built it.
Applications
The sectors this unit is specified for most often, and what each of them is actually solving for.
Solar plants need step-up and auxiliary transformers that spend their lives cycling — full output at midday, nothing at night — which is a different ageing problem from continuous industrial duty.
View sector →A works transformer runs closer to its rating for longer than almost anything on the network, and a failure stops production rather than inconveniencing consumers.
View sector →Corrosive atmospheres attack tanks, radiators and bushings far faster than they do inland, and the classified areas around a process plant put hard constraints on where an oil-filled unit may sit and how it must be contained.
View sector →Most of the world’s diamonds are cut and polished in Surat, and the units that do it sit on tight city plots in Varachha, Katargam and Mahidharpura — multi-storey buildings with hundreds of polishing spindles and laser sawing machines running through the day, and no yard to put a transformer in.

When you have the space, the building and the programme for a conventional substation, it generally costs less. A package substation buys speed, a small footprint and factory-tested interconnections; if none of those are constraints on your project, you are paying for something you do not need.
Up to 5 MVA in the 33 kV class. Above that, or above 33 kV, we would supply a power transformer for a conventional substation arrangement instead — those go to 25 MVA and 66 kV.
The single-line diagram, the rating, the incoming and outgoing voltages, the number of LV ways, and the space available including access for delivery. Delivery access matters more than people expect — the whole point of the unit is that it arrives in one piece, so it has to be able to reach its plinth in one piece.

Send us the rating, voltage class, vector group and quantity. For a like-for-like replacement, a photograph of the existing rating plate is usually enough.
