We repair and rewind transformers of all makes, not only our own. A failed unit is stripped, diagnosed and rebuilt with new windings where required, then re-tested to the same standard as a new build before it goes back to site.

Overview
A transformer that has failed is not usually scrap. Winding faults, bushing failures, tank leaks and tap changer problems are all repairable, and a rewind typically costs a fraction of a replacement while returning the unit to its original rating.
The case for repair gets stronger the larger the unit. Replacing a substation transformer means a new machine, new transport, possibly new foundations and a long lead time. Rewinding the existing one avoids all of it.
We repair units of every make. Being a manufacturer is what makes this possible — the winding shop, the tanking bay and the test floor that build new transformers are the same facilities that rebuild old ones.
Process
These steps happen in this order. The numbering is a sequence, not decoration — each step depends on the one before it.
Send us the rating plate details and a description of the fault. Much can be narrowed down before the unit moves, which avoids transporting something that turns out to be uneconomic.
The unit comes to our works, is drained, untanked and stripped so the core, windings and fittings can be inspected directly.
The actual failure mode is identified — inter-turn fault, earth fault, mechanical displacement from a through-fault, or a fitting failure. This determines whether a rewind is needed or a lesser repair will do.
You get the diagnosis and a firm scope before work starts, so the decision to repair or replace is made with real information rather than an estimate.
Affected windings are stripped and rewound to the original specification, or uprated where the failure indicated the original design was marginal for the duty.
Core and coil are reassembled, clamped and braced, the tank is repaired and repainted, gaskets are replaced, and the unit is filled with treated oil.
The repaired unit goes through the same routine test set as a new build. It does not leave until it passes.
The unit is returned with its post-repair test certificates, and our onsite team can attend for recommissioning if required.

Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. A transformer is a transformer regardless of the badge on the tank. We need the rating plate data and, ideally, a description of what happened when it failed.
A properly rewound unit is returned to its original rating and re-tested to the same routine test set as a new build. The core, which is the component that genuinely does not wear out, is retained. What matters is that the rewind is done with correct conductor, correct insulation and correct clamping — a poorly braced rewind will fail at the next through-fault regardless of how good the copper was.
